If home is a success, then DreamWorks Animation can go some distance to recouping some of the money they’ve been steadily losing over the past few years. If it’s a failure, however, then who knows what’s in store for the studio whose upcoming feature film slate has already shrunk massively?

It’s a sad development. Pixar has, in many ways, always been the market leader when it comes to animation features, but DreamWorks Animation showed how successful franchises could be made out of animated films.

Disney’s animated short “Feast,” which depicts a relationship between a voracious puppy named Winston and the young man who feeds him, has won the Academy Award for animated short film.The film, which won an Annie Award earlier this year, played before showings of Disney’s feature “Big Hero 6.”

The Power Puff Girls: Slated for a 2016 launch, The Powerpuff Girls reboot will include an all-new television series produced by Cartoon Network Studios and a full licensing program slated to roll out across all regions. One of the network’s most enduring original series, The Powerpuff Girls, which debuted on Cartoon Network in 1998, earned two Emmy Awards, five nominations and countless animation honors throughout its 78-episode run. The Powerpuff Girlscenters on three sugar-coated superheroes — Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup — whose mission in life alternates between going to school, fighting crime, winning at hopscotch and saving the world before bedtime. Emmy and BAFTA award winner Nick Jennings (Adventure Time) is on board as executive producer.

The story reel clip, which starts at the 5:17 minute mark, provides a glimpse of a lighter, less gloomy prologue to Beauty and the Beast, with a temporary music box soundtrack, an excised sinister aunt character, and a cheery old-fashioned narratorial style that makes one long for the dark, rich tones of David Ogden Stiers. Executives back in Burbank, California felt that it wasn’t the right take on the story and eventually pushed the film in a more musical direction with different directors
